Assistant Project Manager

Assistant Project Manager to assist project manager(s) in accomplishing the tasks necessary to successfully manage projects.

Overview of the Role

An Assistant Project Manager assists the Project Manager in executing projects. Their duties include providing technical support to the PM’s) by preparing, organizing, and maintaining project documentation and carrying out other construction-related duties as necessary.

Assists project manager with scheduling shop detail drawing and, assists as required to resolve discrepancies and/or missing information with customers, design team as may be necessary. Assistant project manager will occasionally accompany project manager to off-site job meetings to be acquainted with the client’s project team. Assistant project manager may be required to represent the company at mandatory job meetings that PM cannot attend due to schedule or work conflicts.


  • Follows up on any open and overdue RFI responses.
  • Assists the PM’s in identifying any design changes made by the Architect or Engineer during shop drawing approval that may have a cost impact (e.g., change in material sizes, welding requirements, fasteners, etc.).
  • Prepares material take-offs on any extra work identified by the PM that require a change order.
  • Assists in preparing information for filing various reports: LEED reports (Leadership Energy Efficient Design), task hazard plans, site specific safety plans and information required for securing crane permit as may be required.
  • Follow ups on outstanding Request for Information (RFI’s), or Change Order Requests (COR’s), as directed by Project managers.
  • Place orders for specialty items required for projects (buy-outs).
  • Maintain summary sheet of all steady ironworker certifications (e.g., welding, OSHA 30, First Aid, NYC scaffold certifications, NYC welding Certifications).
  • As-built drawings upon job completion as may be required by client.
  • Liaise with project manager to maintain project schedule and efficacy.
  • Review project implementation and gather data on project execution.
  • Oversee variable aspects of projects and provide direct assistance to ensure timely project execution.
  • The firm requires flexibility in the ability to perform multiple tasks, and to accept changes in the duties performed to reflect the business needs of Papp Iron Works, Inc., so the job responsibilities are subject to change.

Key Qualifications

  • 1 year of related experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher preferred; Construction Tech courses preferred.
  • Ability to react well in a fast-paced environment & follow through on commitments.
  • Highly detail oriented and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly learn product knowledge and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Project Management software required.
  • Verifiable leadership experience and capabilities, with past successful project execution.
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively to ensure successful project execution.
  • Working knowledge of necessary industry-related tools.
  • Proven ability to generate and deliver reports that provide useful insight into project details.
  • Must be self-motivated and punctual.
  • Must be trustworthy and reliable.
